Aim

The aim of the course is to familiarize the student with the knowledge and skills to integrate NATO Environmental Protection (EP) requirements during NATO-led military operations in accordance with NATO STANAGs and policies. 

Course Objectives

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Explain NATO and international EP laws, doctrine, and responsibilities.

  • Demonstrate EP standards, compliance and risk assessment requirements for NATO forces during operations.

  • Explain best practices and demonstrate competence in conducting environmental studies for NATO-led forces in order to manage environmental factors.

  • Describe the EP compliance and improvement process

Rank Limitation

Military Officer (OF-1 thru OF-4), NCO (OR-6 thru OR-9), civilian equivalent who is assigned, or selected for assignment, to a NATO or PfP Headquarters or Agency, assigned to, or earmarked for assignment, to NATO/PfP, or a Ministry of Defense, Foreign Affairs Department or subordinate military headquarters, unit or agency of any NATO or PfP country which fulfils responsibilities in support of environmental protection. 

Prerequisites

  • Language proficiencyStudents must have the following standards of proficiency in English (STANAG 6001 ATrainP-5): Listening (Functional/2), Speaking (Functional/2), Reading (Functional/2), Writing (Survival/1). The preferred standard for this course is: Listening (Professional/3), Speaking (2), Reading (3), Writing (2)
  • Computer Skills: Students must be familiar with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel capabilities.
